Trane Technologies to acquire AI HVAC firm BrainBox AI

Trane Technologies, a global manufacturer of climate control products, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire BrainBox AI, a Montreal-based company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous controls for HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.

Why Trane Technologies is acquiring BrainBox AI

BrainBox AI has developed an AI-powered platform designed to optimize energy usage in commercial buildings. The technology is intended to predict energy needs amd automate HVAC operations. In addition, BrainBox claims it can reduce energy consumption by up to 25% and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 40%. Currently, the platform is currently deployed in over 14,000 buildings worldwide, including airports, office complexes, retail spaces and hotels.

The acquisition builds on a two-year collaboration between the companies. During this partnership, BrainBox AI’s technology was integrated into Trane Technologies’ Trane Autonomous Control system, a solution that uses real-time data to enhance energy efficiency and minimize carbon footprints.

BrainBox’s future under Trane

Looking ahead, BrainBox AI’s leadership, including CEO Sam Ramadori and chief technology officer Jean-Simon Venne, will remain in place following the acquisition. The company’s operations will continue in Montreal. There, all employees will transition to Trane Technologies.

Now, Trane Technologies expects the acquisition to strengthen its digital and building management capabilities while supporting its commitment to delivering climate-focused solutions. The transaction is anticipated to close in early 2025. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
