Global Industrial is accelerating its fulfillment process, cutting order processing time by 50% to meet increasing customer demand for faster deliveries and real-time tracking.
The distributor processes more than 60% of its orders digitally and generates approximately $1 billion in annual sales. It has overhauled its logistics and order management systems to streamline operations and improve last-mile efficiency.
Christopher Longhito, chief supply officer, says the company’s success depends on speed and accuracy.
“Timely delivery and product quality are what matter most to our customers,” he said. “We’ve optimized our stock levels, improved real-time shipping updates, and enhanced our logistics strategies to meet these expectations.”
With a catalog of 600,000 to 700,000 SKUs, Global Industrial ensures product availability by stocking key inventory in its distribution centers and leveraging direct-ship partnerships. To keep up with growing demand, some facilities now operate 24 hours a day, running multiple shifts to process high order volumes efficiently.
How Global Industrial approaches order processing
The shift toward on-demand, just-in-time purchasing has pushed Global Industrial to revamp its digital experience. Traditionally, industrial buyers placed large, strategic orders with an emphasis on delivery date accuracy. Now, customers expect near-instant fulfillment, mirroring the fast-paced ecommerce landscape.
“The modern buyer wants speed,” Longhito said. “We’ve seen a shift from bulk purchasing to more frequent, smaller orders — especially for consumables. Customers aren’t just looking for an accurate delivery date anymore. They want their orders processed and shipped immediately.”
To meet these order processing expectations, Global Industrial redesigned its web interface, checkout experience, and freight quoting system. These updates have dramatically reduced the time from order placement to fulfillment, increasing the number of orders that qualify for same-day shipping.
Same-day shipping is now a top priority. Orders that meet Global Industrial’s cutoff times ship out the same day, reducing delivery waiting times and improving overall efficiency.
“We’ve undergone a major transformation to ensure orders move from placement to picking as fast as possible,” Longhito said. “The ability to ship same-day isn’t just a competitive advantage — it’s what our customers now expect.”
This change is part of “Accelerating the Customer Experience” (ACE). ACE is a long-term strategy to digitize and speed up the B2B purchasing process.
“A few years ago, we made a commitment to get faster, automate more, and align with modern buyer expectations,” Longhito said. “We saw where the industry was heading and built the infrastructure to support it. Today, we’re on the leading edge of industrial supply logistics.”
With its customer-first approach, expanded fulfillment capabilities, and digital transformation, Global Industrial says it’s setting new standards in B2B order processing, proving that in industrial supply, speed isn’t just a benefit, it’s a necessity.
