QVC Group announced April 2 a strategic agreement to host 24/7 live-shopping streams on TikTok.
The 24-hour live social shopping experience is a first in the U.S., QVC Group said. According to the company, content will feature QVC Group’s “brands, products, and talent” on TikTok.
QVC Group rebranded from its previous name, Qurate Retail Group, capitalizing on brand awareness of its television network and website. It sought to capitalize on its recognizable television network and website. In that November 2024 announcement, it said it would “expand into a live social shopping company.”
In its April 2 announcement, QVC called itself “the original innovator in live shopping.” It claims to produce more live shoppable content than anyone else at more than 40,000 hours per year.
QVC Group is No. 18 in the Top 2000 Database, which ranks North America’s largest online retailers by their annual ecommerce sales.
Details about QVC live shopping on TikTok
QVC Group says it offers 400,000 products and ships over 200 million units a year to customers. QVC said the move to livestream on TikTok builds on its “unmatched capabilities in live content production and discovery-driven retail.” It added that shoppers can join live shopping streams on TikTok at any time.
Additionally, it said the live-shopping experience will specifically feature original QVC and HSN content created just for TikTok.
“We are uniquely suited to bring our large-scale, high-volume, live social shopping experience to TikTok, an extremely popular platform with over 170 million users,” said David Rawlinson II, president and CEO of QVC Group, in a statement. Rawlinson II added that “the agreement will be a catalyst to transform shopping and discovery, not only for QVC Group and TikTok Shop, but also for social shopping at large.”
More than 74,000 TikTok creators have featured QVC products on the platform since the retailer launched on the TikTok Shop in August 2024, according to QVC. That includes creators featuring products through both shoppable videos and livestreams.
“Live shopping on TikTok Shop, which blends entertainment, education, and commerce, is redefining how people discover and purchase products they love,” said Nico Le Bourgeois, head of U.S. operations for TikTok Shop, in the statement. “QVC and HSN hosts have mastered live shopping moments for decades and we’re thrilled to bring this entertaining shopping experience to TikTok’s community.”
Amazon makes bid to acquire TikTok
The same day that QVC announced its agreement with TikTok, a White House official said Amazon put in a bid to acquire the platform. And the bid comes just days before a U.S. ban of TikTok is scheduled to go into effect — on April 5.
Amazon’s reported bid to acquire TikTok is proof of the platform’s prowess in ecommerce, said Jasmine Enberg, vice president of content at eMarketer, in a statement.
“While the retail giant has struggled to make inroads into social and creator-led shopping, almost half (45.5%) of U.S. TikTok users now purchase on the social platform, per our estimates,” Enberg said. “The acquisition could strengthen Amazon’s position, particularly among younger shoppers who start and end their shopping journeys on TikTok or other social platforms.”
The reported bid also comes the same day U.S. tariffs are scheduled to go into effect. U.S.-imposed tariffs open the door for significant impacts on the ecommerce industry and retail at large.
“More tariffs equal more anxiety and uncertainty for American businesses and consumers,” said David French, executive vice president of government relations at the National Retail Federation, in an April 2 statement regarding the Trump administration’s announcement to impose reciprocal tariffs on all trading partners. “While leaders in Washington may not care about higher prices, hardworking American families do.”
