Alibaba’s B2B search engine hits a milestone

Alibaba International’s B2B search engine Accio has passed 2 million users nine months after its launch. The company also introduced Accio Agent, an AI tool it designed to automate much of the global sourcing process.

Accio Agent can take a product concept and generate a development plan. That includes incorporating market analysis, regulatory guidance, supplier vetting, and bulk RFQs. Users can send inquiries to pre-vetted suppliers on Alibaba.com with a single click, reducing the time previously needed for these tasks from weeks to minutes.

Alibaba owns the world’s two largest online marketplaces by gross merchandise value (GMV), Taobao and Tmall.

Taobao ranks No. 1 in the Global Online Marketplaces Database. That’s Digital Commerce 360’s ranking of the largest such marketplaces by GMV. Tmall ranks No. 2. Both platforms operate in China and primarily serve the Chinese market. Among Alibaba’s other marketplaces is the global B2B marketplace Alibaba.com.

About the new Alibaba B2B search engine agent

A company survey found that 40% of small and medium-sized businesses worldwide are run by solo entrepreneurs, many with limited time and resources.

“Accio Agent is designed to help businesses manage multiple sourcing and development tasks at once,” said Kuo Zhang, vice president of Alibaba International.

Alibaba trained the AI on 1 billion product listings and 50 million supplier profiles. That allows it to evaluate supplier performance, identify specialized capabilities, and weigh trade-offs such as cost versus quality.

The launch comes as AI use in ecommerce grows. Coherent Research data values the market for AI-powered ecommerce tools at $7.68 billion in 2025. It also projects that market to reach $37.7 billion by 2032, growing at 25.5% annually.

Alibaba said it intends for Accio Agent to help SMEs and solo entrepreneurs streamline global sourcing workflows that were previously manual and time-consuming.
