Uber Freight rolls out integrated AI to simplify shipper operations

Uber Freight has introduced new artificial intelligence (AI)-driven features to reduce manual work for shippers and bring more control to freight operations.

The updates embed automation and real-time intelligence across transportation management, procurement, and financial workflows. They’re part of the company’s effort to shift from a system of record to a system of active management. Uber Freight is a digital freight brokerage and logistics platform spun out of Uber.

“From procurement to payment, shippers face constant complexity across the freight lifecycle,” said Steve Barber, vice president of product at Uber Freight. “Through continued investment in platform innovation, Uber Freight delivers the tools, automations, and integrations that simplify the work and unlock meaningful outcomes such as faster decisions, smarter cost control, and more resilient supply chains.”

How Uber Freight is updating its AI technology

One of the most significant upgrades is to the platform’s transportation management system (TMS) financials module. Shippers can now track the full order-to-cash process from within the TMS portal, eliminating the need for disconnected systems, according to the company. It intends for bulk processing tools, redesigned workflows, and real-time dashboards to shorten dispute resolution cycles and speed up accounts receivable and payable tasks.

It also built the financial module to support upcoming AI-native functions. Uber Freight designed those functions to flag payment risks earlier, forecast freight spend more accurately, and automate dispute resolution.

Uber Freight also added scenario analysis to Uber Freight Exchange, its contract procurement platform. The feature allows logistics teams to model multiple bid award strategies side by side. They can compare costs, service levels, and carrier mixes in minutes instead of weeks of manual analysis.

Once bids are awarded, results can be exported directly into any TMS, linking planning with execution. The company said it plans to connect this feature to its Insights AI engine. In doing so, it would surface recommendations on underperforming lanes, targeted mini-bids, and carrier selection.

How Uber Freight is using agentic AI

Beyond planning tools, Uber Freight is deploying agentic AI to manage repetitive operational work. These systems are already automating thousands of scheduling actions each day, the company said. They capture arrival and departure times from carrier emails, and correct data errors in less-than-truckload shipments.

According to the company, the tools are cutting scheduling times, reducing reschedules, and improving shipment tracking accuracy. That frees logistics teams to focus on exceptions and higher-value work.

Uber Freight said these updates reflect its broader effort to build a unified logistics platform that integrates transportation management, procurement, and finance into a single system supported by AI. The goal is to give shippers faster decision-making capabilities, clearer network visibility, and greater operational resilience.

“Ultimately, we’re building a unified logistics ecosystem where AI and human expertise work hand in hand to drive efficiency, reliability and adaptability,” Barber said.
