Sonepar’s digital job center surpasses $2 billion in ecommerce sales

Global electrical distributor Sonepar said its digital job center has exceeded $2 billion in sales.

Sonepar’s digital job center is an online project management and procurement platform for electrical contractors. Its sales growth underscores the growing role of B2B ecommerce in the construction supply chain.

The platform allows contractors, manufacturers and distributors to collaborate on materials, orders and timelines in a single system. Sonepar said platform sales rose 30% year over year. Contractors increasingly rely on digital tools to offset labor shortages, reduce rework and manage complex job-site coordination, it said.

“It’s the best tool in the industry — made with contractors, for contractors,” said Don Sarno, senior vice president of digital enterprise for Sonepar Americas. “Our goal is to take low- and no-value work off their hands.”

The digital job center forms a key part of Sonepar’s omnichannel and automation strategy, linking ecommerce ordering, logistics and project management. During its latest redesign, Sonepar worked with more than 50 contractors to evaluate navigation and interface improvements. The company said users could operate the updated system without formal training.

New features expected in the coming months include real-time inventory visibility, shipment tracking across Sonepar and manufacturer systems and access to backorder data — capabilities designed to give contractors greater transparency and reduce costly job-site delays. The distributor also plans to launch wire management tools to streamline installation workflows.

To highlight the benefits of digitization, Sonepar is launching a marketing campaign featuring videos that dramatize common job-site problems such as misplaced orders and fragmented communication.

Sonepar operates more than 570 branches in North America and employs 12,800 people. The family-owned company reported $35.2 billion in global sales in 2024. Executives said the Digital Job Center will remain a cornerstone of its strategy to help trade professionals manage increasing project complexity through digital transformation and ecommerce automation.
