Henry Schein and AWS drill down on AI-driven dentistry

Henry Schein One is partnering with Amazon Web Services to bring generative AI to dental practices around the world, integrating AWS’s artificial intelligence tools into its suite of software products.

The companies will incorporate AWS’ AI into products including Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend and Dentally . Both companies describe the integration as a major step toward an AI-first model of patient care.

At the center of the collaboration is Henry Schein One’s plan to become the first company to offer a fully AI-augmented practice management system. It seeks to embed AI across every aspect of dental operations. That includes automating documentation, simplifying scheduling, improving patient communication and enhancing clinical workflows.

“This collaboration represents a pivotal moment for dentistry,” said Ryan Hungate, chief clinical and strategy officer at Henry Schein One. “Cutting-edge AI is finally meeting clinical expertise. We’re not just improving workflows — we’re reimagining how dental care is delivered, documented, and optimized around the world. Our vision is to create an AI-first ecosystem that supports every aspect of care — from diagnostics to documentation, from claims to patient engagement — integrating intelligence into the core of every experience.”

The initiative will incorporate AWS technologies such as Amazon Bedrock and Transcribe Medical. Those will enable the companies to create and deploy generative AI models. Key new features include a real-time AI documentation assistant that captures and summarizes patient interactions, as well as voice-activated periodontal charting that allows for hands-free data entry.

Beyond the clinical benefits, Henry Schein One plans to use AI for:

  • Predictive business insights
  • Automated claims validation
  • Dynamic pricing optimization

The company said these capabilities will help practices streamline operations and improve cash flow. They will also help personalize patient engagement through data-driven scheduling and communication tools.

Dan Sheeran, vice president and general manager of health care and life sciences at AWS, said the collaboration underscores the potential for AI to reshape health care operations.

“We’re proud to combine AWS’s AI services, including Amazon Bedrock and Transcribe Medical, with Henry Schein One’s deep domain expertise in dentistry,” Sheeran said. “Together, we’re building the industry’s first AI solutions that can meaningfully improve patient outcomes while reducing the administrative load on dental professionals. This partnership shows what’s possible when technology and healthcare innovation move in lockstep.”

Henry Schein One said it will deploy the new AI capabilities across the United States, United Kingdom and European Union. It plans to leverage AWS’s global infrastructure to ensure scalability, interoperability and compliance with privacy and security standards.

By combining cloud computing with generative AI, the company aims to make dental care more connected, efficient and “profoundly human,” as Hungate described it — enabling dentists to focus less on administrative tasks and more on patient outcomes.
