Uber Eats marketplace adds handful of retailers

Multiple retailers have joined the Uber Eats marketplace to enable third-party last-mile delivery from their stores, Uber Eats has announced.

Among them are retailers that currently rank in the Top 2000 and Europe Database, as well as FedEx Office. Although the latter’s role in the database is largely as a carrier, FedEx Office sells packing and other stationery-related products. The Top 2000 Database is a market research tool tracking North America’s largest online retailers, ranking them by annual ecommerce sales. Meanwhile, the Europe Database offers similar insights into the largest 500 online retailers based in that region.

These retailers are increasingly joining third-party marketplaces to enable faster delivery speeds. They have been capitalizing on the delivery-focused marketplaces to expand the reach of their physical stores. Although the stores themselves do not necessarily become first-party fulfillment hubs, they expand retailers’ reach in their respective locations.

Hundreds of the leading online retailers that Digital Commerce 360 tracks in these databases have physical stores. They are consistently looking for ways to expand their omnichannel presence.

Retailers joining the Uber Eats marketplace

Uber Eats, Instacart and DoorDash have each concentrated efforts in the past couple of years to grow their U.S. reach. They have added dozens of retailers to their networks, expanding the types of merchandise their consumers can purchase on their marketplaces. Some retailers use just one of the platforms. Others, such as Edible Brands, use a mix of Uber, DoorDash, and others (including Nash and Roadie) to expand last-mile delivery. Meanwhile, Kroger has expanded its relationships with Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats.

As of late June, consumers shopping on Uber Eats can now also order products from:

  • Academy Sports + Outdoors (No. 142 in the Top 2000 Database)
  • Blick Art Materials (No. 393)
  • Choice Pet (No. 1997)
  • FedEx Office (More than 900 retailers in the database use FedEx as a carrier)
  • Kiehl’s (falls under parent company L’Oreal, which is No. 16 in the Europe Database)

Uber Eats said it is “continuing to evolve beyond food delivery, offering a more comprehensive marketplace that spans everyday needs.” That includes skin care, shipping supplies, art materials, sporting goods and pet supplies, it said, reiterating what the above merchants sell.

So far this year, Ulta Beauty and Ace Hardware have also joined the Uber Eats marketplace, among other retailers. Including these retailers and others, Uber Eats said its marketplace now features delivery options from thousands of retail-store locations in the U.S.

“Consumers are increasingly turning to Uber Eats for more than meals,” said Hashim Amin, head of retail for North America at Uber, in a statement. “By welcoming a diverse group of retailers, we’re expanding access to a broader range of products … all in just a few taps, while creating new opportunities for brands to connect with customers in faster, more flexible ways.”
