Why 1-800-Flowers.com sold PersonalizationMall.com and Things Remembered to PlanetArt

“The sale of PersonalizationMall.com enables us to further sharpen our portfolio focus, strengthen our financial position and create additional capacity to invest in the strategic initiatives we believe offer the greatest opportunity to drive improved performance and long-term growth,” said Adolfo Villagomez, CEO at 1-800-Flowers.com, in a released statement on Sept. 29. “As we continue to simplify our business, we are taking a disciplined approach to where ownership creates strategic value and where partnerships can provide a more efficient way to serve our customers.”

Villagomez framed the move as part of a wider effort to correct course at the company.

“This transaction reflects that approach and provides us with greater financial flexibility as we continue executing our transformation and positioning the Company for sustainable, profitable growth,” he stated. “We believe PlanetArt is a strong strategic fit for PersonalizationMall.com and Things Remembered and is well positioned to support the business’s continued growth and success.”

Following the sale, 1-800-Flowers.com expected to reach a deal with PlanetArt that would result in 1-800-Flowers.com continuing to offer some PersonalizationMall.com products.

Are 1-800-Flowers.com’s digital sales growing?

“Throughout fiscal 2026, we strengthened our leadership team, simplified our organization, began to modernize our digital and marketing capabilities, improved operational efficiency, and increasingly put the customer at the center of everything we do,” Villagomez told investors during a Sept. 10 earnings call.

Total ecommerce sales for 1-800-Flowers.com fell by 13.1% year over year to $1.27 billion in results from its fiscal 2026 ended June 28. Over the same period, total revenue declined 10.8% to $1.50 billion.

Villagomez arrived at 1-800-Flowers.com as CEO in 2025, with his background leading online efforts at Home Depot as a prominent part of his résumé. Since then, he has focused on modernization and efficiencies to execute a turnaround.

“As we enter fiscal 2027, accelerating the recovery of our revenue trends is our highest priority,” he said in September. “We will continue building these capabilities while increasingly putting them to work to improve customer acquisition, engagement, and retention and to drive better business performance over time.”
