BigCommerce has rolled out updates to its Catalyst storefront platform, offering businesses a faster and more flexible way to launch and design high-performance ecommerce stores.
Marketers can now create new stores with just one click from the control panel, leveraging Catalyst’s integrated visual editor, Makeswift. This tool allows for easy customization without the constraints of rigid templates or costly development.
Catalyst is fully integrated with BigCommerce’s core features, including:
- Customizable checkouts
- Application programming interfaces (APIs)
- Catalog management
- Multi-storefront capabilities
- B2B functionality
Update to BigCommerce’s Catalyst storefront platform
The platform’s modular, composable architecture offers businesses the flexibility to scale and adapt their ecommerce strategies without the risk of outgrowing the platform.
“The adoption of composable commerce has been slow due to the time and resources needed to build a solid, integrated and scalable framework,” says Al Williams, general manager of B2C at BigCommerce. “Historically, this has prevented too many brands and retailers from taking advantage of the flexibility, speed and other benefits that a composable approach provides.”
One company that has benefited from Catalyst’s flexibility is UPLIFT Desk, a Texas-based office furniture manufacturer. UPLIFT Desk recently moved from the core BigCommerce platform to Catalyst to take advantage of its increased flexibility and faster integration. Catalyst’s plug-and-play design streamlines key tasks like cart-to-checkout integration and customer account management, significantly reducing development effort.
Catalyst is built with Next.js and React. It provides a pre-configured foundation for high-performance storefronts, with Core Web Vital scores of 100 out-of-the-box. This optimized structure allows businesses to quickly start creating and customizing their online stores without a lengthy implementation process.
Catalyst also supports greater collaboration between technical teams and marketers. Makeswift enables marketers to adjust content and storefront design to improve conversion rates, while developers can focus on advanced customizations. This division of tasks leads to faster iteration and more efficient workflows, helping businesses stay competitive in the fast-moving ecommerce landscape.
