CVS launched a new mobile app in its latest move to bundle ecommerce and health needs into a single touchpoint.
The CVS Health app, which the retailer and pharmacy officially debuted Jan. 28, replaces the CVS Pharmacy app on both Apple iOS and Android devices.
CVS Health Corp. ranks No. 98 in Digital Commerce 360’s Top 1000 Database of North America’s leading online retailers. The database ranks retailers by annual web sales. The company operates CVS Pharmacy, CVS Caremark and Aetna, among other health care brands. Digital Commerce 360 projects CVS Health’s online sales will reach $1.01 billion in 2025.

New CVS Health app’s features
CVS’s new Health app will intersect with accounts and transactions across its various operations. For starters, it will be used to manage prescriptions for individuals and families using CVS Pharmacy stores, CVS Caremark mail orders and CVS Specialty pharmacies. Delivery and fulfillment options will be selectable, along with statuses and costs for orders.
In addition, the app will provide options for immunization scheduling and details about spending and benefits for eligible CVS Caremark and Aetna members.
“As a company, we are super focused on improving the health care experience,” said Tilak Mandadi, executive vice president at CVS Health, in the company’s announcement. “The CVS Health app will make it easier for our customers to access and manage their health and care, save time and money, and make informed decisions about their health.”
How the Health app fits into CVS’s larger strategy
CVS is emphasizing speed and ease of use with the new app. As an example, the company notes that the app will display personalized barcodes for shoppers during in-store prescription pickups and checkout. CVS is also testing the capability to deliver savings offers at some locations.
Notably, the app may also be used “to open locked display cabinets for easier access to merchandise,” according to CVS. Locked displays have been a controversial response at CVS and other retailers in recent years as companies have implemented new anti-theft measures.
“The app is the health concierge and guide for all consumers,” says Tony Ambrozie, senior vice president and chief digital and technology officer for CVS Health Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness. “With 60 million digital customers, we are excited to continue to innovate and bring best-in-class and first-in-industry capabilities to our customers.”
