Some of North America’s largest online retailers filed for — and/or emerged from — bankruptcy in 2024.
Retailers large and small have struggled with sales during and after the pandemic, as store traffic and sales have fluctuated while inflation pressured consumers. In some cases, retailers failed to navigate the digital shift that the pandemic sped up — and it affected their bottom lines.
Although some retailers, like Joann, managed to emerge from bankruptcy in 2024, others had to close stores, offer going-out-of-business sales, or seek buyouts to keep their companies operating.
Below, we recap some of Digital Commerce 360’s coverage from 2024 about ecommerce retailers that filed for bankruptcy, as well as how those that emerged found exits. Parentheses denote a retailer’s current ranking in the Top 1000 Database, if applicable.
