ColdTrack launches 100% pack accuracy guarantee for perishable ecommerce fulfillment

Death and taxes are said to be the only certainties in life, but for ecommerce companies shipping fresh and frozen foods, ColdTrack is attempting to add one more: perfectly packed orders.

The New Jersey-based fulfillment provider announced a new 100% pack accuracy guarantee for its clients. It promises to reimburse customers for any order errors originating from its facilities. The guarantee follows more than $10 million in investments in software and automation aimed at reducing mistakes in the complex logistics of perishable goods.

ColdTrack built its fulfillment operations around a proprietary order management system, ColdTrack Live. Deposco’s warehouse management system (WMS) supports it. Together, the systems manage inventory intake, order assembly, and shipment tracking across ColdTrack’s facilities in New Jersey, Indiana, and California.

The company says these investments have reduced order errors by 67% year-over-year, resulting in a 99.9% pack accuracy rate.

How ColdTrack is approaching pack accuracy

ColdTrack’s process starts with scan-based tracking of incoming inventory, capturing details like lot numbers and expiration dates. On the warehouse floor, workers use WiFi-enabled wrist computers and finger-mounted scanners to verify each item picked. Each order is linked to a shipment tracking number, allowing ColdTrack to trace every parcel shipped to consumers.

The guarantee applies to orders picked and packed at ColdTrack’s warehouses. In the event of an error, ColdTrack says it will reimburse affected clients.

Josh Abramson, chief financial officer at ColdTrack, said the guarantee reflects the company’s investment strategy.

“We’ve made deliberate, multi-million-dollar technology investments to reduce human error and improve reliability,” he said.

ColdTrack is not limiting the accuracy improvements to packing. According to the company, order packing speed has increased by 128%. Shipping deadline adherence now exceeds 99.9%, and inventory accuracy has reached 99.8%.

ColdTrack Live also features a weather-based coolant optimization tool that automatically adjusts coolant types and amounts based on the forecasted temperature at the package’s destination — a key factor in cold chain logistics.

According to Margaret Szczykutowicz, vice president of fulfillment operations, pairing ColdTrack Live with Deposco’s WMS has improved both productivity and accountability.

“The precision data from Deposco enabled us to implement an incentive program for order selectors, which improved order accuracy rates by 40%,” she said.

Deposco, which supplies the WMS platform, described the partnership as a model for accuracy in a high-risk category.

“In perishable fulfillment, accuracy is the difference between a satisfied customer and a damaged brand,” said Josh Lett, senior vice president of professional services at Deposco. “ColdTrack’s implementation of our WMS helps them avoid costly errors at a time when customer loyalty can’t be taken for granted.”

ColdTrack operates with a direct-to-consumer and direct-to-business model, offering one-day ground shipping to about 80% of the U.S. population, the company said.
