Shoe Carnival has announced that it has integrated artificial intelligence (AI) technology from search platform Algolia into its ecommerce website.
The retailer’s websites — ShoeCarnival.com and ShoeStation.com — run on Amplience’s ecommerce platform. The integration with Algolia and Amplience helps Shoe Carnival’s merchandising team to “significantly” improve agility and efficiency, the companies said. They said that since implementing the integration, Shoe Carnival has experienced “exceptional growth” in both revenue and conversion rates.
Ned Moore, director of ecommerce and product technology at Shoe Carnival, said in the statement that the retailer has “struggled to get big ideas off the ground” prior to implementing Algolia technology. Now, Shoe Carnival can easily and quickly make changes to its ecommerce website.
“This has doubled the productivity of our team and provided the automation needed to enact changes for high-peak shopping,” Moore said in the statement.
Shoe Carnival ranks No. 574 in the Top 2000 Database. The Top 2000 is Digital Commerce 360’s ranking of the largest online retailers in North America based on their annual ecommerce sales. More than 120 retailers in the database use Algolia for site search.
Prior to the announcement, Digital Commerce 360 projected Shoe Carnival’s ecommerce sales would reach $116.52 million in 2025. That would be a 2.51% year-over-year decrease.

How Shoe Carnival is using Algolia
“Shoe Carnival is constantly updating product assortments and dropping new styles, so speed and agility are necessities to achieving its remarkable digital customer experience,” the companies said in a statement.
During the first Cyber Week after implementing Algolia, Shoe Carnival conversion rates rose by 4.5%, the companies said. Shoe Carnival also credited Algolia’s “Dynamic Re-Ranking” feature with boosting a shoe style and helping it sell out in 48 hours. The companies said these capabilities “proved invaluable” during other peak seasons, including back-to-school.
Mark Worden, the president and CEO at Shoe Carnival, said during a May 30 earnings call that he hoped to see “double-digit growth” during the 2025 back-to-school season, driven by the athletics category and new assortments being released.
Courtney Grishman, director of ecommerce at Shoe Carnival, said in the statement that Algolia technology has helped the retailer to learn more about its customers’ needs, what resonates with them and what converts them.
“We have more granular control over our campaigns and can make smarter, data-driven decisions to drive impactful results and achieve our business goals,” Grishman said.
