Tommy Bahama to use Aptos POS solution designed to help omnichannel sales

Tommy Bahama will use a new point-of-sale (POS) solution for its stores, featuring enhancements designed to enhance its omnichannel sales and fulfillment capabilities. The retail chain, which is part of the Oxford Industries-owned Tommy Bahama Group, will use Aptos One across its 160 stores.

The retailer expects the mobile-first POS application to positively impact its guest experience. In addition, the deployment will aid store operations optimization and contribute to its multichannel growth strategy across its stores, restaurants and pop-up retail events.

Tommy Bahama Group owner Oxford Industries is No. 187 in the Top 2000. The database is Digital Commerce 360’s ranking of North America’s leading online retailers by annual ecommerce sales. There, Oxford Industries falls under the Apparel & Accessories category. Digital Commerce 360 projects Oxford Industries’ 2025 online sales will reach $514.84 million.

“With Aptos One being utilized at pop-up shops, transactions and data will flow through to our enterprise systems in real time, which isn’t always the case today,” said David Liu Jr., product manager, retail systems and payment technology, at Tommy Bahama. “We can scale our pop-up activities in a meaningful way, paving the way for boosted revenue streams and the ability to introduce Tommy Bahama to more people who want to ‘Live the Island Life.'”

One point of emphasis for Aptos One in Tommy Bahama’s deployment will be providing a single source of truth for data. The data relates to customers, inventory, orders and transactions. A Tommy Bahama representative told Digital Commerce 360 that inventory visibility extends to buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS). That and other options are available through the Tommy Bahama ecommerce site.

In addition to BOPIS, Aptos will support omnichannel selling and fulfillment options such as:

  • Order in store, ship to customer
  • Order in store, pick up at nearby store
  • Ship to store for pickup
  • Flexible shipping options/fees
  • Reserve for pickup at a nearby store
  • Buy online, return in store, among others

Seattle-based Tommy Bahama counts its website, retail stores, wholesale operations and resort locations among the areas of its business that will be connected through the Aptos One deployment.

“In today’s retail landscape, technology is absolutely foundational to engaging our guests,” said Dave Boland, executive vice president of technology at Tommy Bahama.

As the POS solution rolls out, the company expects to see an impact on workloads and expenses, too. As it does, Tommy Bahama sees potential to enable its staff to be more effective.

“With just a few clicks, you can make changes across the entire store network or specific stores, giving us the ability to react very quickly while reducing cost and complexity,” Liu stated.
