Hibbett adds BNPL payment partners to ecommerce site

Sportswear retailer Hibbett Inc. has introduced two new payment partners to its ecommerce website that offer buy now, pay later (BNPL).

It has introduced the new options to make it “easier” to shop during the holiday season, the company said. Hibbett said its new “flexible” options expand its omnichannel shopping experience.

U.K.-based JD Sports acquired Hibbett in 2024. JD Sports is currently No. 28 in Digital Commerce 360’s Europe Database, ranking the largest online retailers in the region by their annual ecommerce sales. Meanwhile, Hibbett is No. 294 in the Top 2000, which ranks North America’s largest online retailers.

Hibbett adds Afterpay, Affirm as payment options

Hibbett announced Nov. 10 that it has added payment providers Affirm and Afterpay at checkout on its ecommerce site.

Meanwhile, Hibbett had already offered Klarna as an option for BNPL. Hibbett said its three BNPL options would “allow shoppers to choose the payment methods that work best for them and their wallets.” It said having BNPL options allows “qualified shoppers to easily split purchases into smaller, manageable payments over time, instead of paying the full amount upfront.”

“We are excited about the new payment partnerships we have added, to give shoppers some more flexibility this holiday season,” said Bill Quinn, chief information officer at Hibbett, in a statement. “We are continuously looking for ways to improve customer shopping experiences, especially during the holiday season.”

Hibbett highlighted the choices consumers have when using each of the three BNPL providers:

  • Affirm: Offers option to pay over time with “clear, predictable payments.” Eligible shoppers can choose to pay in four interest-free installments every two weeks or select monthly payments for larger purchases. “No late fees, no hidden fees and no compounding interest.”
  • Afterpay: A shop now, pay later option with four interest-free payments. “No fees when paid on time.” Alternatively, customers can select a monthly installment plan for big-ticket items. No hard credit checks are required.
  • Klarna: Splits purchases into four interest-free payments, requires payment in 30 days, or offers monthly financing for bigger buys. “No hidden fees or surprises.”

Hibbett’s pre-holiday moves

In late October, Hibbett also joined the Uber Eats platform to expand its same-day delivery capabilities from its physical stores.

Hibbett said it has expanded its suite of digital and in-store benefits. In particular, it highlighted five recent additions that it said will help shoppers seeking to maximize convenience” in the holiday shopping season.

  1. Fast delivery services: Hibbett has added new options to get gifts fast this holiday season, including buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS), two-day, and same-day delivery Uber Eats as well as DoorDash.
  2. Hibbett Rewards: A free membership program that offers members exclusive perks such as free shipping and rewards points with every purchase.
  3. Hibbett Kids: A curated selection just for the littles.
  4. Sneaker-release calendar: Resource for tracking new sneaker release dates.
  5. Mobile app launch: Another way for consumers to browse, buy and manage purchases.
