Logistics.com launches an updated transportation procurement platform

Logistics.com has launched OptiBid 3, the latest version of its transportation procurement platform that it designed to help shippers manage freight bidding and contract negotiations with carriers.

The Burlington-based logistics technology provider said the updated platform allows companies to conduct transportation procurement events across multiple freight modes while improving data analysis and bid evaluation.

Logistics.com said earlier versions of its OptiBid platform have been used by about 35 Fortune 500 shippers and third-party logistics providers and more than 2,000 carriers to procure more than $7 billion in recurring freight services annually, generating more than $480 million in savings.

Logistics.com develops logistics planning and execution software used by shippers and carriers to manage transportation networks and procurement processes. The company’s platform connects participants through its Logistics Event Management Architecture (LEMA) integration framework.

How Logistics.com’s OptiBid 3 works

Companies including Honeywell, REI, Smithfield Foods and United Stationers have already contracted to use OptiBid 3, according to the company.

Logistics.com said it designed the OptiBid 3 system to give shippers greater control over the transportation procurement process by allowing internal teams to run bidding events directly through the platform. The software supports procurement across multiple transportation modes and can accommodate complex logistics networks.

OptiBid 3 also introduces additional analytical tools that allow shippers to evaluate bid results and conduct “what-if” analysis through a web-based interface before awarding contracts.

For carriers, the platform includes tools that allow users to sort, and filter bid data and export information to spreadsheets for further analysis.

“Bid requests prepared by OptiBid are the easiest to complete that we receive,” said Dan Gaich, operations manager for the Landstar Pittsburgh Agency. “Being able to filter and sort the data, or download it into a spreadsheet for internal analysis, makes bid response painless and allows us to spend our time highlighting the value we can bring to the shipper.”

The platform also supports data exchange through XML interfaces and Microsoft Excel adapters, allowing companies to import and export procurement data and integrate the system with other business applications.

OptiBid 3 integrates with OptiManage 7, Logistics.com’s transportation management system, allowing procurement decisions to feed directly into transportation planning and execution.
