CHICAGO, IL, JULY 15, 2026 — Digital Commerce 360 today announced the launch of the AI Commerce Rankings, a new quarterly benchmark developed in partnership with ReFiBuy to measure how prepared Top 1000 retailers are for the rise of AI-driven shopping and agentic product discovery.
Published as a major addition to the 2026 Top 1000 PRO Database, the AI Commerce Rankings introduces a forward-looking readiness layer to the ecommerce industry’s most widely referenced performance benchmark. As AI shopping agents reshape how consumers discover and evaluate products, retailers need new metrics that go beyond historical online sales.

For more than 25 years, the Top 1000 Database has served as the definitive ranking of North America’s largest online retailers by estimated ecommerce revenue. The AI Commerce Rankings extend that legacy by assessing how well retailers are positioned for the next era of digital commerce.
ReFiBuy, the company that coined the term Agentic Commerce Optimization, co-developed the methodology and produced the underlying data and scoring. Digital Commerce 360 contributed the retailer universe, research framework, and publication through the Top 1000 retailer database.
“Digital Commerce 360’s Top 1000 has long helped the industry understand ecommerce scale,” said Brian Warmoth, Editor-in-Chief at Digital Commerce 360. “As AI-driven shopping becomes a more meaningful part of product discovery, retailers need new ways to understand how they are positioned.”
The new rankings will provide that perspective for online retailer decision-makers alongside the Top 1000 data that was previously available.
“The AI Commerce Rankings add an essential new layer of insight to the Top 1000, helping leaders evaluate readiness for the next major shift in consumer behavior,” said Jon Love, Research Data Manager at Digital Commerce 360.
What the AI Commerce Rankings Measure
The AI Commerce Rankings evaluate retailer readiness across four core signals:
- Bot friendliness — whether AI agents and agentic platforms can access and read a retailer’s catalog data.
- AI source traffic — the share of a retailer’s web traffic originating from AI-powered discovery sources.
- Diversity of AI sources — whether AI-driven traffic comes from multiple engines and destinations.
- 90-day momentum — whether AI-source traffic is rising or declining over the trailing 90 days.
Together, these signals provide a recurring, data-driven view into whether a retailer’s catalog is accessible, visible, and gaining traction as AI shopping evolves. Rankings will update quarterly.
