Visa has announced the release of its AI Financial Assistant, an artificial intelligence tool it said it designed to help banks “evolve their apps for an AI-driven era.”
It said the feature helps banks and financial institutions bring AI-powered insights to cardholders “under their own brand, look and feel with no custom development required.” Visa cited data from a September 2025 study indicating that more than 66% of surveyed Americans who have used generative AI are turning to AI for financial advice.
It also cited data from January 2026 indicating consumers view banks as the most trusted institutions to safeguard personal data. 85% said they were willing to share even more data with their bank if there was a clear AI value proposition, according to that same study.
Michele Herron, head of North America value-added services at Visa, said in a statement that consumers are already turning to AI for financial advice.
“But banks have the full financial picture, can act on it, and are among the most trusted institutions consumers rely on,” Herron said. “AI Financial Assistant brings those strengths together, combining personalized insights based on a consumer’s own data and pairing it with the ability to act, all right within their bank’s app. By simply turning on this service, banks can strengthen relationships with their customers and transform from a passive ledger to a generative AI-enabled financial hub.”
What Visa’s newest AI tool does
Visa described the AI Financial Assistant as a “value-added service” that allows banks “to offer a conversational, in‑app experience for understanding spending, receiving personalized insights, and taking action, all inside their existing banking apps.”
The payments provider said it designed the AI tool for financial institutions that want to increase their digital engagement. It said the tool helps cardholder better understand their finances.
Visa said consumers can use the AI Financial Assistant within their banks’ apps to:
- Receive proactive spending summaries.
- Ask natural‑language questions about their finances.
- Take guided actions, such as reviewing subscriptions or activating relevant offers.
The technology uses Visa’s Data & AI Platform (which it shortens to DAP). Visa said the DAP “provides secure access to multiple leading AI models.” It also said it evaluates models on an ongoing basis. That evaluation factors in whether the models meet Visa’s standards for security, accuracy, compliance and performance, according to the company.
How does Visa’s AI Financial Assistant work?
Visa said the feature offers a single, chat-based entry point inside banking apps.
It said financial institutions can connect their frequently asked questions (FAQs) and documents. That enables the banks to surface relevant banking product information, according to Visa. It also said the tool can help cardholders answer questions such as:
- Are there any car loan benefits for existing customers?
- Do you have high-yield savings accounts to help me save for a car?
Visa said banks can deploy individual capabilities on their own through its Digital Enablement Software Development Kit (SDK). It added that the AI Financial Assistant “acts as a central layer.” The assistant connects existing and new features within the SDK as they come online, according to Visa.
Visa said the digital assistant operates under the company’s AI and data governance standards. It said Visa’s global network of more than 300 billion annual transactions informs the AI Financial Assistant.
“It combines cardholder behavior, real-time data, and the financial institution’s own data to deliver highly personalized guidance with the security, compliance, and fraud protections banks require,” according to Visa.
The company said its new tool will become available to U.S. banks through a pilot in August 2026. It plans a global rollout to follow, but did not disclose when.
