Aldi joins Uber Eats platform for grocery delivery nationwide

Grocery chain operator Aldi has joined Uber Eats’ delivery platform in the United States, as of Sept. 25.

The addition makes Aldi “the first retailer on Uber Eats to accept SNAP-EBT payments nationwide from day one,” according to the companies. Aldi operates more than 2,500 locations in the U.S., which Uber Eats said makes the retailer “instantly” one of the largest grocery banners on its platform.

Aldi said its partnership with Uber Eats extends convenience to customers at home, at work and on the go.

“Our partnership with Uber Eats is making grocery shopping even more convenient, allowing customers to enjoy the exceptional value and quality they love — whenever and wherever they need it,” said Dave Rinaldo, chief operating officer at Aldi USA, in a statement.

Aldi operates an ecommerce website of its own, as well as one using Instacart technology. Additionally, Aldi also offers a storefront on Instacart’s marketplace. In April, Instacart added in-stock statuses for inventory on its platform.

Aldi does not currently rank in the Top 2000 Database or the Europe Database. The databases rank North America’s and Europe’s leading online retailers by their annual ecommerce sales.

Aldi joins Best Buy, Dollar Tree, Sephora and DSW in joining Uber Eats since August. At the end of August, Merchants Distributors began working with Instacart to offer same-day delivery to independent grocers. In January, Home Depot added delivery options through both DoorDash and Uber Eats.

Prior to the partnership, Aldi already offered delivery and pickup for orders its customers placed online. Working with Uber Eats, Aldi is growing its ecommerce footprint.

Hashim Amin, head of grocery and retail in North America for Uber Eats, said in a statement that Aldi “is beloved for its unique combination of value and quality.”

“Now, millions of customers can enjoy seamless access to their favorite Aldi products they know and love, whenever they need them,” Amin said in the statement. “We’re especially excited that ALDI is our first retail partner to offer SNAP-EBT payments nationwide at launch — making grocery delivery even more accessible for more people.”

Uber Eats said customers “can unlock Fresh Days,” a weekly program offering savings of up to 50% off select fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy products and more. It’s currently offering Fresh Days in eight countries:

  1. Canada
  2. France
  3. Japan
  4. South Africa
  5. Spain
  6. Taiwan
  7. United Kingdom
  8. United States

Uber Eats is offering 40% off Aldi orders of $30 or more — for a discount up to $25 total — when consumers use the promotional code ALDIUBER25.
