Blain’s partnership with AI providers to boost supply chain efficiency

Blain’s Farm & Fleet has announced a partnership with software provider Relex Solutions that the companies expect to boost the retailer’s supply chain efficiency and enhance customer experience.

Relex provides supply chain and retail planning technology. The companies said Relex’s software will improve Blain’s forecasting, allocation and replenishment operations across the retailer’s distribution center and 45 stores.

Dennis Carrie, senior vice president of supply chain at Blain’s Farm & Fleet, said the retailer’s partnership will “modernize” its supply chain and space-planning processes.

Relex’s platform and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities “will help us reduce complexity, improve inventory metrics and deliver measurable value to our business,” Carrie said. “This is a long-term investment in innovation and operational excellence.”

Blain’s is No. 160 in the Top 2000 Database. The database ranks North America’s largest online retailers by their annual ecommerce sales. Blain’s is a Mass Merchant, selling products from a variety of merchandise categories, including apparel, home goods, farming equipment and automotive supplies.

How Blain’s Farm & Fleet is improving its supply chain operations

Blain’s and Relex said their partnership “will bring together delivery, advisory, and industry experience” from retail technology services firm Logic using Relex’s AI technology. Accenture, a digital and management consultancy, acquired Logic in 2024.

Relex and Logic have previously partnered to provide supply chain technology to other large retailers, including Lowe’s and Monoprix.

Blain’s said it “needed to automate manual processes, replace custom systems, and enable data-driven decision making” because it carries more than 100,000 active SKUs and increasingly seeks “agility” in its operations. It said “like all retailers,” it must continuously balance competitiveness with product availability and customer experience. As a result, it sought to “unify and optimize its supply chain and in-store planning.”

Additionally, Blain’s said using the Relex platform “will eliminate supply chain silos, enabling end-to-end visibility.” In doing so, it will improve forecasting, allocation and replenishment, according to Blain’s. As a result, it will enable more accurate planning, efficient product movement between stores and its distribution center, and “smarter” decisions.

Jason Aubin, vice president at Relex, said his company’s platform gives Blain’s “the tools to increase efficiency” and “reduce manual effort.” In doing so, the retailer can improve its customer experience, according to Aubin.

Nick Reinbold, who leads the Americas region for Logic, said his company and Relex are working to help Blain’s Farm & Fleet bolster its operational capabilities so it can “build a solid foundation for long-term profitability and success.”

“As businesses strive for greater resilience, transparency, and efficiency, real-time data and AI have emerged as vital tools for optimizing logistics and inventory management,” Reinbold said.
