FedEx to offer two-hour delivery through SameDay Local initiative

FedEx Corp. has announced its rollout of what it calls FedEx SameDay Local, which will offer two-hour delivery among other fulfillment options.

The carrier announced its rollout March 24. It said the offering is designed to help FedEx “meet rising consumer expectations for flexibility, control, and convenience while balancing their cost to serve.”

Jason Brenner, senior vice president of digital portfolio at FedEx, said the carrier is supporting its customers by “pushing the boundaries of their value proposition around speed and convenience.”

“FedEx SameDay Local will provide our customers with a scaled solution to give the delivery options customers want, without adding complexity to their operations,” he said in a statement.

FedEx cited its own Future of Logistics Intelligence Report, which found that more than a third (36%) of consumers prioritize reliable delivery windows.

It also cited research from Invesp that indicates 96% of consumers define “fast delivery” as same-day. The study, which Invesp published in January, also found that 80% of consumers want a same-day option at checkout. And half of consumers are more likely to complete a purchase when same-day delivery is available.

Close to half of the Top 2000 retailers in North America use FedEx as a shipping carrier, according to Digital Commerce 360 data. The Top 2000 refers to North America’s largest online retailers by annual ecommerce sales. In 2025, 927 online retailers in the Top 2000 Database used FedEx as a shipping carrier.

FedEx works with last-mile delivery company on two-hour option

FedEx SameDay Local will work with OneRail, a last-mile delivery company. Together, FedEx and OneRail will let shoppers choose two-hour or end-of-day delivery at checkout.

FedEx said the service will connect its customers to a national network of more than 1,000 delivery providers using “intelligent orchestration.” It said it automatically matches orders to the appropriate vehicle or driver, dispatches quickly and tracks the orders with live updates from pickup to delivery.

The carrier said FedEx SameDay Local will enable:

  • Time-specific delivery windows. That includes FedEx offering two-hour and end-of-day delivery with a national network.
  • Near real-time tracking. Customers will be able to track orders from pickup to drop-off. They will also have predictive estimated times of arrival, and receive proof of delivery, FedEx said.
  • Flexible integration. FedEx said it will use “efficient” API connections and offer full-platform support.
  • Smart orchestration. FedEx said it is using artificial intelligence (AI)-driven rules “to optimize delivery provider selection, routing and delivery performance.”
  • 24/7 support. FedEx said it is offering “proactive monitoring” to help stay ahead of delays or disruptions from pickup to arrival.
  • Special deliveries. FedEx said it offers the ability to fulfill large, oversized, or specialized deliveries.

“Consumers don’t just expect ‘as fast as possible’ delivery for every order,” FedEx said in announcing SameDay Local. “They increasingly want choices. Some purchases need to arrive immediately, others must come within a precise time window, and sometimes shoppers want the most economical option and are willing to wait.”

The carrier said its launch of FedEx SameDay Local “expands the company’s ability to support customers across the full delivery lifecycle from long-haul transportation to local last-mile fulfillment.”
